Outdoor concrete became part of the design of the property.

As building design became more sophisticated, attention gradually moved beyond interiors. Driveways, backyards, pathways, patios and pool surrounds started to influence how the whole property looked and felt.

Early decorative concrete often relied on oxide colour in the concrete mix and stencil or patterned finishes created when the slab was new. These systems brought colour and character to concrete, but years later owners faced another question: what happens when the finish fades, the pattern feels dated, or the property needs a completely different look?

That demand helped drive modern decorative concrete resurfacing — a family of systems designed to create a new surface, colour, texture or pattern over suitable existing concrete. Today that can include Spray Crete resurfacing, stencil finishes, custom masking designs and decorative flake systems.

WHAT IS DECORATIVE CONCRETE RESURFACING?

It is not one finish. It is a way of giving suitable concrete a new identity.

Decorative resurfacing can change the colour, texture and visual style of existing concrete without automatically removing and replacing the whole slab. The correct system depends on the condition of the concrete, where it is located and the look the owner wants to achieve.

CUSTOM PATTERNS

Decorative resurfacing does not have to follow a standard stencil.

Masking tape can be used to create borders, curves, contrasting bands and one-off geometric layouts. This gives the driveway or outdoor area a finish designed around the property rather than a fixed catalogue pattern.

THE RESURFACING PROCESS

The finished photo is only the last step.

Surface preparation is what gives the decorative system the right foundation. Resurfacing is not simply colour sprayed over old concrete.

Assess the concrete

We inspect the slab, existing coatings, wear, contamination and the overall condition before recommending a resurfacing system.

Prepare the surface

Cleaning, grinding and suitable repairs are completed so the new system has the right surface to bond to.

Create the finish

Colour, texture, fleck, stencil or custom masking is applied according to the selected decorative system.

Seal and protect

The finished surface is completed with the appropriate sealer or topcoat for the selected system and location.

DECORATIVE FLAKE

Another way to give a driveway a modern multi-tone finish.

Decorative flake systems create a more continuous speckled surface where the flake blend itself becomes the visual feature. This is a different system from Spray Crete fleck, even though both can produce a multi-tone appearance.

Spray fleck and resin flake are different systems.

Both can create a speckled multi-tone appearance, but they are installed differently. The correct coating and protective topcoat must be selected for the substrate, traffic and exposure.
